About Cyberbullying

What is Cyber Bullying?
Cyber bullying is carried out through an internet service in any place on any device, through email, applications, chat rooms, discussion groups, online social networking, video sites, instant messaging and other web pages. It can also include bullying via mobile phone using SMS.

Cyber bullying is a fast growing trend that experts believe is more harmful than typical schoolyard bullying.

Children "can escape threats & abuse in the classroom, only to find text messages & emails from the same tormentors when they arrive home. There's no safe place anymore, you can be bullied 24/7 even in the privacy of your own bedroom." Chris Webster

Examples of cyber bullying include:

  • Teasing & being made fun of,
  • Spreading rumours online,
  • Sending unwanted messages,
  • Defamation.

Cyber bullying can happen to anyone & the bully can act anonymously. People can be bullied online by groups such as class groups or collective members of an online community.

It's important to learn how to protect yourself online and to learn how to respond if you or a friend is cyber bullied. Visit
